Harry Klynn bore no relation at all to the record labels until 1977, when he realized that people were making tones of bootleg recordings out of his live shows and selling them out in the market on the sly. This urged him to turn to EMI – COLUMBIA, with a business proposition to work with him on an experiment which consisted of the production of a purely satiric album. Giorgos Petsilas was the only one out of the Columbia head stuff who took on the idea instantly and supported it to the end. He even agreed to act as a producer in Harry Klynn’s first record attempts. History proved that his instincts were more that right! Soon after this release, Harry Klynn became the leading artist of the label and kept his place at the top until 1985 when he moved to Polygram Records.
His first album came out in 1978. More that 26 years have passed since then and still these records have lost nothing out of their original freshness and charm. Through the long discography that followed, which documents in an admirable way the Greek satiric code, the public got acquainted to Harry Klynn’s historic, 30 year career and although vinyl got slowly replaced by the CD, Harry Klynn’s fans still look out for his old records which will soon be re-released together with some bonus material, left out of the original releases.
Harry Klynn’s records were considered to be a revolutionary act for the music industry of the time. Never in the past did a satiric album reach the pick of the charts and yet all of Harry Klynn’s records have made it to the top with their sales numbers setting records which have not yet been matched by anybody. Apart from the 15 and more official albums released in all these years, there is still an unidentified number of bootlegs going around in the Greek market, which consist of recordings out of his live performances as well as his radio shows “Arambades me Karoulia” and “Vasana pou’ hei I agapi” (Troubles of Love) which aired the waves in 1981 when Harry Klynn shared the microphones with Antonis Andrikakis at the studios of the Second programme of the Greek National Radio.
